Workshops for First Nations

Art therapy can be a very good fit for Indigenous culture and spirituality. Tanya Negrey has worked with First Nations including Mistawasis First Nation and Muskoday First Nation. She has experience delivering mental health support services in Indigenous communities while being sensitive to specific cultural and traditional beliefs.

Art therapy is an alternative to the traditional western talk therapy model. Tanya serves residential school survivors, women’s groups, men’s groups, and children and youth, conducting workshops on the topics important to the group she’s working with.

She respects Indigenous knowledge and ways of knowing, and will incorporate knowledge from the Elders of each community, which helps her meet the specific needs of the community where she’s working.

Topics Tanya can address:

  • The effects of residential schools

  • Youth counselling

  • Trauma

  • Grief and loss

  • Addiction and mental health

  • Depression

  • Domestic violence
