TJ Ricard

Social Worker
Master of Social Work Student | Art Therapy Practicum

TJ Ricard is a social worker and therapist with over a decade of experience supporting individuals, families, and communities. His professional background includes mental health, addictions counselling, anger management, interpersonal violence, and working with individuals navigating significant life challenges.

TJ holds a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Regina and is currently completing his Master of Social Work through the University of Calgary, specializing in direct clinical practice.

As part of his graduate studies, TJ is completing a practicum placement with Tanya Negrey, where he is learning about art therapy and exploring how creative expression can support emotional healing, self-discovery, and personal growth. While TJ brings considerable experience in traditional counselling approaches, art therapy represents an exciting opportunity to expand his understanding of how people communicate, process experiences, and find meaning beyond words alone.

TJ's approach to counselling is grounded in relationships, collaboration, and respect for each person's lived experiences. His practice is also informed by Indigenous perspectives on healing, connection, and community.

Through his time working alongside Tanya, TJ hopes to deepen his understanding of art therapy and incorporate what he learns into a broader, more creative and responsive approach to supporting others.
